How we work

Dentures made to fit

Honest suitability

Are dentures right for me?

Dentures are a practical, accessible solution for significant tooth loss, particularly when the timeline, health status or preference make implants unsuitable. We assess gum tissue health, bite and aesthetic requirements before recommending conventional or implant-supported designs.

✓ Suitable if

  • Fit and comfort assessment - Aims to reduce sore spots and movement.
  • Bite and aesthetics setup - Tooth position supports speech and facial profile.
  • Adaptation guidance - Support for eating and speaking during the adjustment period.
  • Review appointments - Checks allow refinements as tissues settle.

! May not be suitable if

  • Teeth that cannot be restored predictably
  • Untreated gum disease
  • When extraction and replacement is more appropriate
  • Unrealistic expectations without clinical compromise

Patient benefits

How dentures can help

Well-made dentures restore confidence, facial support and chewing function, and when they are fitted well and followed up properly, they feel far more natural than patients often expect.

  • Precision at every stage

Impressions, bite registration and try-in are all taken seriously. Rushing any stage produces a denture that never fits as well as it should.

  • Facial support considered

Tooth position, vertical height and lip support are planned deliberately, not defaulted to. Well-made dentures improve how patients look as well as how they function.

  • Implant-retained options available

For patients who want significantly better stability, snap-in dentures supported by implants change the daily experience of wearing them.

  • Try-in before final fit

You can review appearance, bite and comfort before the final denture is finished.

Clinical assessment

What we assess before making your denture

Denture quality depends almost entirely on the accuracy of the clinical records taken before fabrication. These are the factors we assess carefully at each appointment.

Fit and comfort assessment

Aims to reduce sore spots and movement. This helps us plan dentures around your real starting point, rather than relying on a generic treatment pathway.

Bite and aesthetics setup

Tooth position supports speech and facial profile. We explain what we find clearly, including where a more cautious or staged approach would protect the final result.

Adaptation guidance

Support for eating and speaking during the adjustment period. Small details at this stage can change comfort, appearance and longevity, so we take time before recommending treatment.

Review appointments

Checks allow refinements as tissues settle. The aim is a plan that feels considered, predictable and appropriate for your long-term oral health.

  1. Initial visit

    Consultation and option planning

We discuss goals, assess oral tissues and decide on full, partial or implant-retained designs.

  2. Impression visits

    Records and measurements

Detailed impressions and bite registrations are taken for accurate fabrication.

  3. Try-in stage

    Appearance and bite check

A trial setup allows adjustments before final denture completion.

  4. Fit and follow-up

    Delivery and refinements

The denture is fitted and reviewed to improve comfort during adaptation.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers about dentures, types, fitting process, implant-retained options and what adaptation involves.

How long do new dentures take?

Several appointments over a few weeks for impressions, try-in and fit. At consultation, we will give you a realistic timeline for your mouth rather than a one-size-fits-all answer.

Will dentures slip?

Full dentures rely on suction and fit; implant-retained options move far less. We will talk this through with you carefully and make sure you understand the next step before making any decision.

Can I sleep in dentures?

We usually advise removing them at night to let gums rest unless told otherwise. We will talk this through with you carefully and make sure you understand the next step before making any decision.

How often should dentures be replaced?

Dentures typically last 5-7 years, but your gums and bone can change sooner. A reline resurfaces the fit inside the denture so it sits securely again without making a whole new set. We review fit at appointments and advise when a reline or replacement is the better option.

Are implant dentures worth it?

For many patients, yes, stability and comfort improve significantly. We will talk this through with you carefully and make sure you understand the next step before making any decision.

Can I eat normally?

Soft foods at first, then firmer foods as you adapt, implant dentures allow a wider diet sooner. We will talk this through with you carefully and make sure you understand the next step before making any decision.

How do I book a dentures consultation at Bridge Dental?

Use our online booking link or call reception. We will confirm appointment length, what to bring, and whether any preparatory steps are needed. If you are unsure what to book, our reception team can guide you gently to the right appointment.

Are guide fees fixed before treatment?

We provide written estimates from our published fee guide. If your clinical needs change after assessment, we discuss any difference before proceeding. Before you commit, we will talk through the likely fee range and any choices that could affect the final plan.

What are snap-in or implant-retained dentures?

Conventional dentures rest on the gums and rely on suction and fit. Implant-retained, sometimes called snap-in, dentures clip onto dental implants placed in the jaw, giving far greater stability, especially for lower dentures. They still come out for cleaning. We discuss full, partial and implant options at consultation, including bone augmentation if scans show it is needed.
